Case Study
Project: Iznik Chimney
Client: Victoria & Albert Museum

The fireplace was to form part of a touring exhibition of Islamic artefacts, so it was essential to design and construct a lightweight, demountable structure to support the exhibit. The Art College was designed by the architect Sir Gilbert Scott. The decorative mosaic quadrants had detached from their backing and were in danger of falling to the ground. Heritage Tile Conservation Ltd was commissioned by Birmingham City Council to remove, restore and refix, the glass mosaic quadrants, regrout and clean the three mosaic roundels above.
