Case Study
Project: Iznik Chimney
Client: Victoria & Albert Museum
We were commissioned to remove, conserve and remount the Iznik ceramic tiled fireplace situated in the corridor adjacent to Gallery 33. The fireplace was to form part of a touring exhibition of Islamic artefacts, so it was essential to design and construct a lightweight, demountable structure to support the exhibit. Alexander Gibbs Shakespeare panels
These panels were from a series of eight tile panels decorated by Alexander Gibbs, London circa 1865 and also reputed to have decorated the interior of a public house in Manchester, called The Shakespeare. Five of the panels are owned by Heritage Tile Conservation Ltd and are currently on loan to the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and on display at Jackfield Tile Museum in Shropshire. Two of the panels were restored for a private client in New York.
