Case Study
Project: Iznik Chimney
Client: Victoria & Albert Museum
We were commissioned to remove, conserve and remount the Iznik ceramic tiled fireplace situated in the corridor adjacent to Gallery 33. The fireplace was to form part of a touring exhibition of Islamic artefacts, so it was essential to design and construct a lightweight, demountable structure to support the exhibit. Welcome to the Heritage Tile Conservation Ltd website
Heritage Tile Conservation Ltd
Heritage Tile Conservation was founded in 1984 by the current Directors of the company Christopher Dellow and Jeremy Southorn. They began their careers in conservation at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum in 1978, initially restoring historic buildings and artefacts relating to the industrial revolution, before setting up and developing the ceramic conservation department of the Jackfield Tile Museum, where they worked until 1984.
During this period, major conservation projects included the cleaning and restoration of the faience facades of the Crown Bar, Belfast (circa 1880); the removal of the Gilbert Bayes frieze ‘Pottery through the Ages’ (circa 1938) from the façade of Doulton House, Lambeth; (currently on display at the Victoria & Albert museum) and the cleaning and restoration of the tiled hunting frieze by W.J Neatby (circa 1902) in Harrods Food Hall, Knightsbridge.
